Despite the economy crisis that many are experiencing today, there are ways for your family to save on health care. It’s not as difficult as it may seem. Your family can have their health care needs met at a lower cost just by employing some of the same cost saving strategies that you currently use for managing your household’s budget. Here are some ways to make health care more affordable for your family:
It pays to know people! Believe it or not some medical practices offer discounts or special services for referrals. Financially, it makes lots of sense for them. If one patient brings another, then, that’s more money that they make. So, it’s nothing for them to toss you a freebie or a co-pay reduction. Imagine the finances that they rack up for all of those visits, tests, and of course referrals! But more importantly, if you trust your health care provider, then it’s good to tell others about them. Why not do it and get a little financial break along the way?
Generic drugs work! Studies show that you don’t always need those high priced designer drugs. In fact, filling your prescriptions with the generic version of the drug may not only reduce your co-pay, it may eliminate it all together. Many insurance companies will not charge patients additional fees for using generic drugs when they are available. Even if the copay is only reduced for using the generic drug as opposed to the high end version, just think of all of the things that you can do with the money that you saved! Plus, isn’t it better to pay $1 or $2 for a 30-day supply than $200 for a designer original? Truth is, the drugs are manufactured to do the exact same thing and they go through rigorous testing before they end up on the shelves of your local pharmacy. So, there is nothing to fear. Get the off-brand and save your cash for more exciting things.
You can always find an eyeglass sale! Even though there are better times in the year to buy glasses than others. For example the most ideal time to find the best buy, cheapest frame, or a two-for-one special is at the start of the back to school season. There are also many programs set up for low-to moderate income families that will provide eye glasses for school aged children. They are usually provided to kids for free!
Make sure to get your gift cards! Drug stores are now offering one of the best incentives ever for transferring your prescription…FREE MONEY! Usually given as a gift card or in actual dollars, you could get enough to do something special for yourself or your family just by switching from one pharmacy to another. You are not limited to just one switch, do it whenever you get a new prescription for the maximum payout.
Always use coupons! In each Sunday paper and online, you can find coupons for everything from allergy medicine to dental or medical services. Consider them free money and reap the benefits of these fabulous savings tools.
When it comes to saving, cost conscious customers can get the discounts every time with a little research and effort. Even in an economy crisis, you and your family can be well taken care of and can have all of your health care needs met on the cheap!
