Available Jobs in Health Care
You may be surprised at how many jobs there are in the health care industry besides doctors and nurses. Medical assistants, medical transcriptionists, and sonography technicians are just a few of the fast growing jobs. Sonographers have a particularly good future ahead of them as the industry is growing and the job is high paying compared to similar type positions.
The mean salary for sonographers in the United States is $57,160. Another great statistic is the industry is expecting a 10% expansion in this field over the next 3 years.
Bats are blind and they makes sounds that hit objects and bounce back to them. Using this method they know what objects are around them. Sonography is the same thing, it uses sound waves to see what something may “look” like behind a barrier such as the skin.
Sonographers have very intimate contact with patients during these procedures. They must help the patient feel comfortable while also getting the patient to cooperate in getting the best possible image.
The most important thing that a sonographer does is to capture the best images for the doctor to view and diagnose the patient. They have to evaluate what they are seeing on the screen and know what to look for that may help the doctor.
Now, what does it take to become a medical sonographer? The good news is there is no license that is required by the state. However, there are certifications that are awarded which is basically required by many employers.
The certification process has 3 main parts: education, experience, and documentation. If you need to enroll into a sonography school for the purpose becoming certified, then you should be sure to select an appropriately accredited program. There are many different certification programs available that require different levels of education and experience. They all end up with the same certification. For example, the more relevant education you have the less experience you will need.
